Joy To The World

Our opening song for Celebrate Christmas VII at the Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Kingston, Ontario.

Capos and Looping

Phil Keaggy was my guitar hero when I was a young player. That was over forty years ago. He is still my guitar hero. Such an incredible musician. And two capos no less.

ScottGalloway

Scott Galloway:

Scott Galloway is a Clinical Professor of Marketing at NYU Stern School of Business where he teaches Brand Strategy and Digital Marketing to second-year MBA students and is the author of the Digital IQ Index, a global ranking of prestige brands’ digital competence. In 2012, Professor Galloway was named “One of the World’s 50 Best Business School Professors” (Poets & Quants). Professor Galloway is also the founder of several firms including: L2, a subscription business intelligence firm serving prestige brands; Red Envelope [looks like they are now out of business], an e-commerce firm (2007, $100mm revs.); and Prophet, a global brand strategy consultancy with 250+ professionals.

He can also tear through 90 slides in 900 seconds. I caught his most recent presentation at DLD15: The Four Horsemen — Amazon/Apple/Facebook & Google — Who Wins/Loses.

He made a number of predictions including:

  • Amazon will not make it as a pure play retailer
  • The future of retail is multi-channel
  • Facebook pulled the biggest bait and switch in history
  • Google is facing stronger competition in search
  • Apple will become the first trillion dollar company

He also shared a heat map which attempts to associate socioeconomic status with mobile operating systems.

Scott literally tore through his presentation without barely taking a breath. I won’t give him too many points on the quality of his public speaking skills however his content was fascinating to watch.

Shorebreak

A friend passed me this amazing video of surf photographer Clark Little. Incredible images and a remarkable reach through social media.

Getting Ready To Mix

A screencast about my approach to getting a session ready for mixing. Although I don’t talk about the editing part specifically in the video, it is not unusual to spend several weeks per song on pre-production, bed tracks, overdubs and edits before the song is ready for mixing.

Once a song is ready for mixing, I may spend up to three days working on the mix. For the project in the video, each version of the mix is released to the team for feedback and another round of mixing takes place until we have a version that gets signed off. Once signed off, I hand over the pre-mastered version of the final mix to the mastering engineer.

And then I wait for the release event.

Anniversary

It does take time to get a great result. We have been working on the New World project for almost a year. And we are getting close to the finish line. With the final percussion tracks coming in, I will be able to produce another round of mixes for the team to review. Hopefully, with another iteration or so, we will be ready to master.

Trevor pulled together a nice video montage of our work in the studio last year. Such great memories.
