On Our Way Home

What a wonderful week in the southwest. A perfect way to celebrate 30 years of marriage.

We make our way back to Kingston later today. But it will be a very late arrival. I don’t expect to get home much before 3am tomorrow morning. I find traveling east to be hard from a jet lag perspective and it will likely take a couple of days to readjust to the three-hour time change.

I am looking forward to getting back home and seeing my children. I do miss them when I am away.

Man With A Gun

Actually he had a rifle. As we were hiking one of the trails near Superstition Mountain, he was perched on a hill looking for game.

The rest of the story is captured for the record.

Superstition Mountain

We were up early yesterday morning and on the road by 5am to hike and shoot Superstition Mountain off the Apache Trail.

Here are some photos from the hike.

They Shoot

— UPDATE: the video was inadvertently marked private… you should be able to see the video now —

During our guided hike yesterday, we came across three older ladies riding the trail on horseback. I joked with them about signing releases for the photos I was about to take. They seemed quite pleasant and friendly. But looks can be deceiving.

Lorraine captured the three riders on video. If you look carefully — towards the end of the video — you can see that the last rider was armed. A handgun conveniently located to deal with any city slickers that might forget to ask for a release.

Only in America.

Awesome. The entire week has been just awesome. Horseback riding, cycling, hiking, desert touring, shopping and hanging out at the resort.

The past few days have been very busy. We did a horseback ride out to Granite Mountain on Tuesday. A Hummer desert tour on Wednesday. And a guided hike through Carefree yesterday.

I had arranged for a surprise spa treatment for Lorraine this morning. She is currently enjoying a three-hour session. I am going through literally thousands of exposures but I will have to wait until I get home to process them before posting a few on the blog. As I am using a netbook, I do not have enough compute power to do post-production work. I do have a few photos to share from Lorraine’s camera. From the Hummer tour.

A couple of frames from the guided hike.

Hi Ho Silver

A few shots to share from our time hiking the trails around Sedona. Although the weather forecast called for clouds and thunderstorms, we enjoyed a beautiful day — sunny and warm.

On Vacation

And having a great time. Which means posting on the blog will be a bit haphazard over the next few days.

We are having an amazing time. Arizona is sunny and very warm right now. We are staying at the Four Seasons resort and we ran into a problem when we were checking in on Sunday. Our room was not ready. Although it did not matter to us, the management offered a complimentary upgrade. We are in an amazing suite complete with a private plunge pool and a private outdoor shower. The resort is absolutely stunning as you can see from the following photos.
