Mykonos
Mykonos, Friday July 11.
Our final port of call on this cruise. Wake up time was at 6:00am however we struggled to get out to breakfast by 7:00am. I suspect the pace of activities coupled with the extensive walking and the heat were catching up to us.
We left the ship at 7:30am and we took a bus shuttle from the dock to Mykonos marina. The trip was about 7 minutes.
We spent the morning walking around Mykonos. We picked up a few souvenirs (shirt, magnet). We also purchased a treat from a chocolate shop in the old town.
We walked approximately 6 kms and we climbed a lot of stairs as we explored all of the various alleyways. Highlights of the walking tour included a few old windmills, plenty of tourists, lots of shops. Shopkeepers were very polite and discrete — unlike the aggressive nature of the street vendors at the Grand Bazaar in Turkey. Roads were very narrow with no sidewalks. Pedestrians had to fight for space with the cars and scooters. Lots and lots of car/bike/ATV rentals on the island. All of the houses and buildings were white and angular. Weather was sunny and warm as it has been the entire trip. After walking for about 4 hours we decided to make out way back to the ship.
We had a wonderful lunch out on the outdoor deck of Cabanas where we we treated to an amazing view of the harbour.
