Before and After

The new house has a number of interesting technology features. For one, it has three rooms pre-wired for multi-channel surround sound: two 7.1 rooms and one 5.1 room.

Unfortunately, the installer did not do a great job with the cable plant. All of the lines — speaker cable, video interconnects, cat5 — were not labeled. And ganged in massive tangles. It took me hours just to untangle the lines and to trace them.

The first two photos show the home theatre. And yes, I know that the subwoofer in the second photo is massive. A big room needs a big subwoofer like this one 🙂

This was the mess of cables before we moved in.

And after.

That poor Lonestar looks “lone”ly. When do I bring over my two Mesa Boogie MK III’s? Looks like you have lots of room to jam!

…not that you have any other priorities at the moment 🙂

Looking good – and great to see some forward thinkers pre-wiring rooms – unfortunate they fell down somewhat in the execution.

Richard, a question comes to mind. Did the buyers of your former house object in any way to the studio layout? Any chance the new owners themselves would want to use it for the same purpose. In looking at the pictures of it on your studio tab, I would be hard pressed to know what to do with the rooms save a studio….

    …just curious…Rob

We did not hear anything negative about the studio. I am not sure what the new owners will do with it but I can tell you that they asked for the wall-mounted JBL speakers to be included as part of the deal.

From my point of view, the control room could be easily converted into a media room for a smaller-sized home theater. The other two rooms could be re-purposed with a little drywall and a little imagination.
