Getting Ready to Move In

Arrived at the lawyer’s office this afternoon to sign the papers for the new house. Unlike the deal in Newmarket, there were a few wrinkles on this property. Paperwork as far as I can tell and somewhat typical of rural properties. Oh. There was also the unexpected hit on the Ontario Land Transfer Tax. Ouch.

We should have the keys to the new house by noon tomorrow. We will do some of the most critical prep work before the movers arrive. In order of importance:

  1. Confirm access to the Internet and configure the wireless router
  2. Hook up the home theatre on the lower level and test the system
  3. Hook up the media centre on the upper level and test the system
  4. Rest

I suppose there may be a few other things to do to get the house ready for the move. But I will sleep well tomorrow evening knowing that I can surf the web and watch a DVD.

I love moving.

    Hi, Richard,

Nothing like ensuring all the creature comforts are in place to ensure maximum comfort!

I did some research on the Maslow heirarchy of needs – you appear to be conforming, so this is good!

    1. Physiological: hunger, thirst, bodily comforts, internet

    2. Safety/security: out of danger, media centre

    3. Belonginess and Love: affiliate with others, be accepted, home theatre

    4. Esteem: to achieve, be competent, gain approval and recognition, wireless router

    5. Cognitive: to know, to understand, and explore, home studio

    6. Aesthetic: symmetry, order, and beauty, laptops in every room

    7. Self-actualization: to find self-fulfillment and realize one’s potential, network with adequate security

    8. Self-transcendence: to connect to something beyond the ego or to help others find self-fulfillment and realize their potential – oh yes, the furniture and ensuring the kitchen is in good working order.

All the best and keep us posted.

Rob, Ross: I will assume that you know me well enough to know that the post was a bit “tongue in cheek” 😉

Although I did get the technical side up and going relatively early, we spent roughly 12 hours cleaning and prepping the house before the movers showed up.
