Dell Falls Down

Dell has fallen on some rough times lately. And Michael Dell, the founder of the company, has returned to bring Dell back.

His strategy? Lower costs, while improving customer service; innovate without spending more time and money; and take on price battles while improving margins.

Sounds crazy. But it seems like most businesses are going down this path.

This article provides more detail into Dell’s current turmoil. Dell used to be a high-growth technology stock. Perhaps Michael Dell can bring it back. Jobs was able to bring Apple back.

Now what was it that Michael Dell said about Apple?

Oh yes.

At the Gartner Symposium and ITxpo97. This was back in 1997 when Apple was in turmoil and Steve Jobs returned to try and rebuild the company. Michael Dell was asked what could be done to fix the Mac maker. His response: “What would I do? I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.”

Let’s see what Michael can do now that he has a similar challenge.
