Much Improved

April 24, 2009

Although not completely healed, I am finally coming out of this environment of constant pain and liquid diet caused by the dental surgery two and a half weeks ago. I have been off of all painkillers for the past four days. And today, two things happened. One is that the relentless pain actually went away — I hope that continues. Two is that I had solid food. Chicken fingers! Hard to describe how good it felt to eat solid food.

What was your surgery for, exactly?

I don’t mind liquid meals so much, I tend to have a lot.

I remember getting my wisdom teeth out and missing solid food, however.

Hi Matt,

A few years back, I had a filling crack and it splintered a rear molar. Lost over half the tooth. The dentist tried a root canal but it did not hold. Another molar on the opposite side had a similar issue. Two extractions. A little different from extracting wisdom teeth and tougher on older patients like me. We take longer to heal.

Unfortunately in my case there were complications with the surgery and that is what caused the pain. Most people are fine in a few days. I happened to fall in the “other” category. The good news is that I am healing well and I have no pain.

I’m realizing now that dentistry makes my skin crawl.

I think I’m going to try and avoid asking questions about this particular field in the future…

lol :D

Looks like it’s been over a month. Have the feelings of discomfort completely subsided?

It took almost five weeks but yes, the discomfort has completely subsided. :-)
